Adrián Astorga (b. 1976, Mérida, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan-Spanish artist based in Barcelona. He enjoys international recognition for his artistic talents and powerful abstracts. Astorga’s art is his own language, a meditative work through which he communicates his personal vision of both the outer and the inner worlds. Each piece is the result of a creative process defined by the study of the complex relationship between elements such as color, shape, rhythm and tension, and how they combine to push the boundaries of shape and form in order to express unknown and unconventional messages. When diving into his universe, Astorga asks of us to soften our eyes and mind and allow ourselves to perceive without preconceptions, free from established patterns or limitations. This way, the artist can achieve his ultimate purpose of turning each of his paintings into an experience of self-exploration, giving shape to the unique feelings and emotions that arise from the viewer. Astorga’s diverse work establishes connections between abstraction and figuration. An important theme of Astorga’s work is nature in all forms; it is the source of life for every being.

Adrián Astorga paints natural landscapes as well as interior landscapes, where he explores his emotions. He strives to develop his own language, and discover new sensations and reflections. Astorga is inspired by Abstract Expressionism and Impressionism, which allows him to express his emotions in a physical manner. His creative process involves him taking advantage of mixed media, mainly acrylic. Astorga uses rags and brushes, and paints with his fingers, sticks, or sponges, to enrich the texture of the painting. His palette is inspired by the tropical landscape of Venezuela and the European landscape of Spain; he pulls creative expression from these two major cultural influences. Astorga has exhibited work in his native country, Venezuela, as well as in Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Astorga’s works have been shown at the Alejandro Otero Museum in Venezuela, PanorArt Gallery in Chicago, and Vango Art in San Francisco.
